Rite Aid needs to take Anti Monkey Butt Powder off of Shelves

To my shock and horror, today I discovered in my local Rite Aid Sales advertisement that they are selling a product called Anti Monkey Butt Powder. I contacted Rite Aid's Corporate office and told them of the product that they had in their ad, the customer service representative at first thought that it was a joke until he checked the sales circular himself. This circular is for February 28-March 6, 2010 page 7.
http://www.riteaid.com/stores/weekly_ad/two_page_view.jsf?region=east&ad_type=weeklypage=1
A product that also has Baby anti monkey butt powder, of course they could not forget the babies.
And for us ladies, we were also not left out, they have Lady Anti Monkey Butt
I checked the web site and discovered that they also sale apparel and have commercials on the web site. http://www.antimonkeybutt.com/index.php?src= How many products do we need that are going to discriminate against Black Americans? Why do we as Black Americans, continue to support these companies who discriminate against us, by giving our support by giving our funds to these companies?
[<span class= http://aapov.blogspot.com/2009/10/wtf-brasskey-keysakes-has-black-baby.html
Just as I have no longer given my support by my funds to the following companies that have these products on their shelves, nor will I continue to give support to Rite Aid carrying Anti Monkey Butt Powder. http://www.antimonkeybutt.com/index.php?src=
In 2010, is it necessary to continue to support companies that continue their racist practices against us as consumers? Is not our money green, and should it not have the same respect coming from black hands as other races hands?

Thank you Antoinette. This is nothing but white code talk. Calling us N*gger to our face and we don't get it.

I did not see the Monkey Butt Powder ad as offensive to Black people unless WE relate to being a monkey. After I went to their on line webstore, I see that Monkey Butt is a term used by bikers and this powder is suppose to relieve the irritation derived from sitting for long periords. What does that have to do with Black people? Absolutely nothing. I think many times WE read things into stuff ourselves. Everytime I see a monkey, do I see me? Hell naw. Do I think everytime a monkey is referenced that folks are talking about Black people? NO, I don't. I dig a little deeper to find the racist content if it exists, otherwise it is just a image of a monkey. I also looked through the Rite-Aid circular link you provided and I did not see Monkey Butt Powder in the advertisement, but then that could mean that after your complaint it was removed. Still, I think the alarm for this product is over the top and has absolutely nothing to do with Black people outside of the minds of those who relate monkeys to Black people and as I stated before there is nothing that can be done about that. I know that this comment has to be approved and I hope you let it go through because other people need to see this alternative view. Queen Ifama

Antoinette, once again a great blog, glad to see your still blogging. I must agree in part with Queen Ifama's comment,
but, no pun intended, I also think their are some who do mean these kinds of adds to be racial, and with Fema camps already staffed and operational around the country I think it is good to be on the look out. what about the baby doll with the monkey hat, what are we to make of that one?

In Amerikkka, it never ends!

I can certainly understand that we must stay on point because the System of White Supremacy is always at work. Sis Antoinette, you are on point to sound the alarm, it is up to US to discern whether it merits action or not. However, too many wolf crys have a tendency to make people stop listening for the alarm. The baby doll, the reference to Obama in the cartoon, definitely warranted action. The Monkey Butt Powder, NO but we still needed to look at it. Good job and keep up the good work, keeping that top eye open. Peace

Why don't we just ban all pictures of monkeys in any ad for any product. Will that make your fragile-azz soul happy?

Well, it goes to show that anyone who's actually looking for racial epithets can find them anywhere. I agree with Queen Ifama.

For your information...this is what the makers of the product are referring to totally tongue in cheek [http://bit.ly/PA12k6], and in reference to this condition in humans [http://bit.ly/PA17o0].

Seriously...plenty of African Americans use this product, but this is the first time I've heard *anybody* equate it with an epithet.

What's next? Removing the word "monkey" from the English language?

Lmao @this blog. So sensitive. I was actually looking for somewhere that sold this powder and NEVER did I once associate it with black people. I associated it with a sweaty chaffed butt. Since I run a lot I was looking for something so my butt wouldn't get so sweaty. For you, lady, to see a picture of a monkey on a product and instantly associate it with a black person is ridiculous especially when when there was no black person on the advertisement. I can possibly see if the monkey was holding a piece of chicken, a watermelon slice, a cup of red kool aid and a 40...but come on now. I understand, WE as black people can be sensitive about some subjects, but this is a stretch.

This powder isnt racist at all! The term monkey butt is referencing to a chapped bottom. This powder is the only thing that clears my childrens diaper rash. Now thanks to people like you who think everything has to be against them i have to order this product online.

Thank you to all who have left a comment on this post, I appreciate you taking the time to share your POINT OF VIEW, as I took the time to share my POINT OF VIEW, to express my view point on whatever topic that I had felt the need to express my feeling regarding in a blog post.

Ugh, seriously? Queen Ifamas first post had it right. You a monkey? No. As a human who gets a rashy ass when its hot and i gotta walk during my work a lot, this product is lifesaving. There is no implied racism in the label- it has to do with the BRIGHT RED ASS-RASH folks get! Like a baboon's ass? That's where the name's derived. Sorry for getting graphic on ya, just feel strongly about the situation and the helpful product!

I know the makers of this product and it has nothing to do with race! This is a term that off road motorcyclists, bicyclists, and triathletes have used to describe the chafing. It was a humor based on the baboon buttocks being red and inflamed. It relates to monkeys and chaffing- not race. Anyone that has skin is able and encouraged to use. And they don't make dolls.

Why do black people make EVERYTHING about race??? Enough already!!!! I worked in a little store overnight last year, and a white guy from out of state came in asking to use the bathroom, i told him we couldnt let him, and he left. 2 minutes later a black guy came in asked to use the bathroom, told him we couldnt let him, and he threw a fit saying i was only saying no bc he was black and he wrote down my name to report me. I let him... it was store policy, if he needed corporate to tell him that, so be it.

ANother time we kicked a group of white kids out for shoplifting for the millionth time. Cept this time they had a black kid with them. It was a black associate who kicked them all out, yet the mom of this black kid came in bitching that we were all racist and only kicking them out bc they had a black kid with them. The woman who gave them the boot explained it was bc the kids he was with arent allowed in the store to begin with and also bc we caught them all taking candy and gum. She still turned it into a race issue. Its ignorant, senseless, uneducated morons like you and them that keep MAKING racism an issue... its not even there 90% of the time but thanks to idiots like you, you keep it going.

Are u just looking for random stuff to bitch about? Keep seeing this article go around on my facebook newsfeed so i read it and... holy shit are you that miserable that you need to write a whole blog about non racist ads and make them all about you? Get over yourself.

I am not anonymous, I am Queen Ifama and I think if we get rid of those lil boxes on EVERY application that desigate you to CHOOSE a RACE then we may not be so race focused. So I don't think it's the fault of Black people who focus on race but the fault of the CULTURE that focuses on race, gender and whatever divides the haves from the have nots so the havenots don't unite and over throw the haves and redistribute and make opportunity available to those who prove they are ABLE to do what ever they seek to do. So I advise that we not "get so sick" of those who use what has been culturally handed to them and do what YOU can to change the culture of race focusing. Peace

You are fucking stupid, monkey butt is a reference to riding a motorcycle over a long period, and herring "monkey butt"when you try to get off the bike

Its suppose to be funny. Something you put on your butt so you don't look like a baboon after some sports - which does happen. Its not intended towards black people. I am horse rider and I use it because it works, not because of white supremacy or whatever you guys are thinking.. I think y'all are paranoid.
